Lake Manapouri was formed by glaciers some 12,000 years ago.The lake is New Zealand’s second deepest lake being some 444 metres (1,457 ft) deep and with the lake's surface at 178 metres (584 ft) above sea level, the bottom of the lake now lies 267 metres (876 ft) below sea level.

The day of our visit was a good one for photography, with air so still, only the ferries disturbed the waters surface.
